One step closer to 1st hydrogen engine based power plant in the Asia Pacific region

With the successful acceptance testing of INNIO’s Jenbacher “Ready for Hydrogen“ engine technology, it’s official: The first 100% hydrogen-fueled power plant will be built in the Asia Pacific region! INNIO and Hyosung Heavy Industries (Hyosung) performed the successful acceptance testing during a visit to the INNIO campus in Jenbach, Austria. The engines were fueled with both hydrogen and traditional pipeline gas.

The pilot hydrogen power plant will be built at the Hyosung Chemical Yongyeon Plant in Ulsan, South Korea. It will be the first 100% H2 power plant in the 1 MW scale in South Korea and an important milestone for the country’s decarbonization strategy. Hydrogen, produced as a byproduct at the Hyosung chemical plant, currently is sold off to an industrial gas company.
