Intelligent Optimization and Electricity Trading for Decentralized Power Generation: INNIO Jenbacher and Stadtwerke Rosenheim Join Forces

• Compelling all-in-one package helps plant operators save time while boosting operating efficiency
• Innovative product supports flexible heat and storage-optimized operation
• INNIO Jenbacher’s digital myPlant energy management solution provides tailored, automated recommendations for revenue-focused electricity trading

Jenbach, August 19, 2021 –

An agreement between INNIO and municipal utility company, Stadtwerke Rosenheim, takes their successful collaboration to the next level, bringing an innovative energy management solution to plant operators throughout Germany.

The electricity market is characterized by an increasing proportion of renewables, which in turn entails brief periods of fluctuations in power generation. Deploying reliable energy solutions allow for the reconciliation of volatile solar and wind supplies impacting electricity supply. The answer is flexible and always available combined heat and power plants that provide rapid ramp-up capabilities stabilizing the grid.

The challenge our customers face is twofold: the harnessing of untapped potential, and the complexity of flexible operating modes that incorporate both power and heat.

The new all-in-one solution from INNIO and Stadtwerke Rosenheim makes combined heat and power plants even more sustainable by helping plant operators align their power generation with renewables availability, allowing them to manage their operations to meet demand. The package is based on the software, myPlant energy management solution, and it is underpinned by a wealth of experience acquired by operating and maintaining INNIO Jenbacher’s global gas engine fleet. The new customer-friendly myPlant energy management solution combines INNIO Jenbacher’s long-standing technological experience with Stadtwerke Rosenheim’s many years of operational and marketing expertise, supporting customers’ flexible heat and storage-optimized operations. Using a variety of algorithms, the innovative package helps plant operators boost their economic viability while complying with statutory and operational requirements.

INNIO’s myPlant energy management solution software provides plant operators with remote control, monitoring and operational optimization, while Stadtwerke Rosenheim offers them an electricity trading service on which they can rely on. The new all-in-one package also offers many advantages for owners of smaller assets, providing them opportunities to increase operating efficiency, to capitalize on flexible operating modes, and to play an active part in electricity trading – something that would otherwise be difficult to achieve for many operators.

The all-in-one solution for more reliable supply and more revenue

The INNIO and Stadtwerke Rosenheim partnership allows a multitude of decentralized power generation systems to be networked in a single association.

In practice that means that for each connected asset, the INNIO myPlant energy management solution links analyses of various parameters such as weather data, historical trends and current operational information with all available data on electricity market trends and provides operators with automatically generated action recommendations leading to optimized plant operations. The recommendations cover the entire plant – e.g., gas engines, the fill level of the gas storage tank, and heat storage or heat pumps. The main objective is an improved overall cost effectiveness while keeping things as simple as possible and providing operators complete transparency.

INNIO and Stadtwerke Rosenheim have been working together closely for many years now. Our agreement on optimized electricity trading of decentralized power generation is the result of our loyal, innovative partnership and will benefit plant operators across the whole of Germany. This means that we can support not only our customers, who will benefit from our holistic, integrated action recommendations for best possible resource-efficient and economically viable operations, but also the energy transition as a whole.

Carlos Lange, president and CEO of INNIO

Our cooperation agreement with INNIO Jenbacher represents a compelling all-in-one solution that brings optimized feed-in revenue within the reach of operators of smaller power generation plants with a high level of transparency and no additional system requirements.

About Stadtwerke Rosenheim

Power, district heating, gas, water and more. Stadtwerke Rosenheim provides reliable, sustainable supplies and is targeting economically viable and effective climate protection.

Sustainability is a top priority at Stadtwerke Rosenheim, which is why we work tirelessly to develop new technologies, products, and services for decentralized and carbon-neutral power supply. The challenges that this entails are environmentally sound technologies, affordable prices for consumers, continuous optimization of our technical systems, and innovative strength.

The energy transition is driving more and more decentralization in Germany’s energy supply. Small, combined heat and power plants, gas engines and renewable energy plants are taking the place of large-scale coal and nuclear power plants.  SWRO works with biogas, PV, wind, hydropower, and CHP plant operators to take over the direct marketing of their electricity on the energy exchange. And thanks to experience and expertise, we can obtain the best possible prices for customers. Our track record is testament to competence and commitment. We are an energy industry pioneer and a role model for other municipal utilities.
