Recognizing the importance of managing impacts on the environment
INNIO recently formed its first Sustainability Review Board (SRB) which developed comprehensive Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals and strategies that are in close alignment with INNIO’s overall growth strategy. Further, the SRB ensured that INNIO’s ESG goals and strategies both maintained alignment with international standards such as the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). INNIO’s SRB has applied rigorous sustainability processes that assess risks and opportunities with the aim to drive efficient use of energy and natural resources, reduce waste and protect biodiversity across all its operations.

with a Silver Medal Rating for 2021, placing INNIO Jenbacher in the top 17% of its peers working towards sustainability.
INNIO’s sustainability journey is involving all parts of its Jenbacher and Waukesha businesses, spanning employees, communities, customers, and suppliers. This has led to a continual improvement of INNIO’s internal operations that have translated to the development of improved technology offerings, new energy sources and better energy solutions. Having passed stringent sustainability tests for efficiency and energy savings for its stakeholders, INNIO’s products and services are helping to lead the way for to a greener future.
With its increased commitment to sustainability, INNIO’s Jenbacher business received recognition by EcoVadis with a Silver Medal Rating for 2021, placing INNIO Jenbacher in the top 17% of its peers working towards sustainability.
The prestigious EcoVadis sustainability ratings are based on a methodological framework that takes a deep dive into the policies and actions of companies as well as their published reports on the environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. The EcoVadis Silver Medal Rating has been an important external validation that INNIO is positioned not only to deliver sustainable products and services, but also to deliver sustainable growth for the Jenbacher business.
As part of its ESG strategy, INNIO worked in close collaboration with HanseWerk Natur to initiate field testing of a 1-megawatt (MW) pilot power plant with a Jenbacher gas engine that represents the world’s first large-scale gas engine:

This joint project serves as a key milestone on the path toward climate neutrality since green hydrogen is an important part of the solution. A particularly attractive aspect of the innovative Jenbacher gas engine technology is that existing natural gas engines can also be converted to run on hydrogen, offering operators security of investment.
This “Green Utility” provides the added benefit that not only can the existing infrastructure be utilized in the longer term, but it can also be deployed in a way that is environmentally sound. INNIO‘s proactive sustainability efforts have been key to transforming climate change challenges into opportunities and extending its contribution and leadership in the global energy transition.
